WE NEED YOU!

White Mountain Aquatic Foundation Seeks Volunteers

Poised to take the next step towards Mount Washington Valley’s state of the art aquatic and fitness center, the White Mountain Aquatics Foundation (WMAF) is seeking the help of volunteers.  WMAF is interested in individuals who can donate their time, energy, and expertise towards this exciting community effort.  No contribution is too big or too small.

Whether you are an experienced swimmer, an enthusiastic parent, or just looking to get involved, volunteering will help you find your place as a supporter of the WMAF.   ‘This is a community project with health, safety, and wellness benefits for our residents and visitors.  It will take support from our community members to drive it forward,’ noted WMAF Board of Directors President Jeff Rothen.

The goal of the WMAF is for the Mount Washington Valley to have a sustainable, modern aquatics facility with opportunities for competitive and fitness swimming, water aerobics, therapy & rehab, swimming lessons, and family recreation.  At the feasibility presentation in November 2013, the projected facility included a lap pool, warm water spa, leisure pool with water slide, as well as weight & fitness rooms and studios for yoga, aerobics, and Zumba.

‘The opportunities to volunteer and help us in our mission are nearly unlimited,’ says Rothen.  ‘We look at volunteering as a fun and rewarding way to meet new people, make new friends, and help an important local initiative.’

Volunteering opportunities:

Events, Swim Team, & Health Fairs

Social events are a fun part of every organization.  If you like to organize such functions or you can speak to the public about the Foundation’s mission, this may be the job for you.

Fundraising

Raising funds is a priority of every non-profit. It could involve anything from a bake sale to landing a sponsor for the Aquatics Center or Saco Valley Swim Team. If you have the gift of gab, this might be your area.

Marketing & Public Relations

Promotions within the community are important to continue to raise community support, enthusiasm, and awareness.  Volunteers skilled at public speaking or writing can be useful here, as we also saturate the surrounding communities.

Website & Social Media

Using social media for continued awareness and for promoting marking & public relations is key.  Volunteers with a knowledge base of maintaining, enhancing, and promoting websites & social media can help us here.

Grants

Attention to detail will help volunteers in this area to organize, write, submit, and follow up on grants.

Foundation or Aquatics Center Board Member

At the non-profit level, volunteers are needed to serve on the Foundation and Center board of directors. The most experienced volunteers are needed here:

Committees of the Foundation

-Finance Committee

-Development Committee with a subcommittee - Capital Campaign
 Planning Group

-Communications Committee

-Facilities Committee

In addition to the above opportunities, there are many other ways to become involved, including helping at the Aquatics Center with coaching, teaching, lessons, cleaning, & office help, involvement with the Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, developing contacts within our community, and reaching out to media sources such as radio and television.
